Annual Manoomin Ricing Camp
Join the community for the annual ricing gathering. Learn traditional harvesting practices, share meals, participate in processing demonstrations, and strengthen connection with Manoomin. Open to invited guests with community connection — contact MWRI for details on how to participate respectfully.
Educator Workshop: Teaching Manoomin in Michigan Schools
A half-day professional development workshop for K–12 educators. Covers culturally responsive approaches to teaching about Manoomin, how to use MWRI's Stewardship Guides in the classroom, and tips for partnering with local Tribal education programs.
Ricing Season Opens — Traditional Waters
The Tribal-regulated ricing season opens on traditional waters across the Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Peninsula. Dates vary by water body and are set by the respective Tribal nations. Consult individual Tribal DNR offices for specific openings.
M&R Subcommittee — Harvest Season Check-In
MWRI's Monitoring & Restoration Subcommittee convenes for its annual ricing season check-in — reviewing field observations from Tribal resource staff and community harvesters, discussing emerging bed conditions, and coordinating any urgent monitoring response.

Quarterly meeting of MWRI's Policy & Protection Subcommittee. Agenda includes review of pending EGLE rule changes affecting Manoomin habitat, update on Great Lakes water quality initiatives, and coordination with the National Wild Rice Congress.

A family-friendly outdoor story walk hosted by Bay Mills Indian Community, featuring stations along a nature trail with Manoomin teachings, native plant identification, and information on how to support wild rice recovery in your watershed.
